Throughout our history God has spoken to our ancestors by his prophets in many different ways. The revelation he gave them was only a fragment at a time, building one truth upon another. But to us living in these last days, God now speaks to us openly in the language of a Son, the appointed Heir of everything, for through him God created the panorama of all things and all time.

Hebrews 1: 1, 2

Prophetic Ministry

God in time past spoke to the people by His prophets in various ways. He gave the revelation of Christ in fragments. Each prophet was given a message to prophesy regarding the Christ. No Old Testament prophet had a different message apart from the message of Christ. They prophesied Christ as a mystery.

There has never been a generation that has been given the detailed understanding of this glorious and divine mystery until now. He kept it a secret until this generation. God is revealing it only now to his sacred apostles and prophets by the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 3: 5

The Christ was hidden to the people in the prophetic messages the prophets gave. The message coded in the prophetic imagery and visions. Though the message was directed at the nations of the time but it was a Christology message concealed. Though the prophets were able to prophesy events and details about certain Bible characters, but all that had to do with the big picture of the revelation of Christ.

Since the revelation of Christ had not yet closed, God used day to day, real people and real events to explain and reveal the heavenly realities. Now that the revelation has been closed, God speaks to us through His Son, who was the manifestation of the prophetic message of the prophets.

The Role of the New Testament Prophet

At this I fell facedown at the angel’s feet to worship him, but he stopped me and said, “Don’t do this! For I am only a fellow servant with you and one of your brothers and sisters who cling to what Jesus testifies. Worship God. The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Revelation 19: 10

The New Testament prophet is not called to give details about your life. His calling is to reveal CHRIST to the people. Is God concerned about your life? Yes, He does. But He is more concerned about the state of your heart than the state of your account.
