How to Stay Above Deception Part 1

WHAT IS DECPETION?

And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. Luke 21: 8

The word deceive comes from a Greek word ‘Phanaho’ which means to cause to roam from safety, truth or virtue, go astray, to err, to seduce, to wander, be out of the way. Deception has become the order of the day in the church. It has become a
merchandising commodity and it is bringing a substantial revenue. Church is no longer about the discipleship of the people to know Christ. It is more driven by personal gain, which is covetousness. The covetousness of the people has turned them into gullible believers. Deception thrives where the word of God is scarce. Ignorance of scripture is the major reason for deception in the church.

Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. Matthew 22: 29

Jesus came to His own but His own did not recognize Him. They had the scriptures but they could not recognize the Messiah despite been the custodians of the law. They had the scriptures but were ignorant of the revelation of the scriptures. The scriptures were talking about Jesus Christ, but instead they kept on seeing Moses in the scriptures. Deception in the church has got to do with the revelation of Christ. Christ came to fulfill that which was written about Him in the scriptures. The revelation of Christ was concealed in the law and prophets. Christ was presented in types and shadows. He was concealed.

But now I’m afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s clever lies, your thoughts may be corrupted and you may lose your single-hearted devotion and pure love for Christ. 2 Corinthians 11: 3

The purpose of deception in the church is to blind you from seeing Christ. The ultimatum purpose is not to take a car, a house or money from you. But to keep you from Christ. Satan’s aim is to ensure that believers and people at large turn to a pseudo Jesus that cannot save at all, but promises material possessions. Jesus commanded us to seek His kingdom and righteousness, and then all the material things will be added to our lives. The purpose of the church then is to make Christ known.
