GIVING

For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. 1 Corinthians 12: 12 – 14

Giving is the lifeline of the body of Christ, which is the church. The church came into existence because God gave His Son to die for man. Man’s salvation was necessitated by God giving.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3: 16

His love for man compelled Him to give His Son. The church is a son of God and is supposed to be a loving institution.

And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof. Genesis 2: 21

Adam was alone, not lonely and needed a companion. God had to put Adam to sleep and took a rib out of his side. The object of Adam’s love came from his body. The two were one, as one body. Marriage is a union of two people, a man and a woman becoming one. The uniting factor is love. And love is demonstrated through giving. God took a rib from Adam as a demonstration of love. When Adam saw Eve, his wife, it was natural for him to fall for her in love. He loved her without been asked to do so. It was natural.

The church is Christ’s wife, an object of His love. It is natural for Christ to love His church. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; Ephesians 5: 23, 25

Giving comes natural for a christian. Love is a motivation for giving for you and me. We give to one another, and also to those who are not Christians yet. We give in sharing the gospel, praying for others and fighting for justice for the underprivileged.
