Faith Comes By Hearing
By Apostle Felix
17 Faith, then, is birthed in a heart that responds to God’s anointed utterance of the Anointed One.
Romans 10: 17
Faith is the product of the word of God. In my view, faith has been one of the subjects that has been preached about more extensively. Every believer in Christ wants to understand what faith is, and to live by faith. Sometimes, believers were left confused about what faith is, than understand it. In most cases, it has been taught and preached in a very abstract way. Many believers, do not really know the object of their faith. For some, faith has got to do with believing God for a new job, marriage, a new car or just a breakthrough. This is because, faith is normally associated with acquiring things. Of course, there is nothing wrong believing God for things, but we first have to understand the foundation of our faith.
1 Now God has offered to us the same promise of entering into his realm of resting in confident faith. So we must be extremely careful to ensure that we all embrace the fullness of that promise and not fail to experience it.
2 For we have heard the good news of deliverance just as they did, yet they didn’t join their faith with the Word. Instead, what they heard didn’t affect them deeply, for they doubted.Hebrews 4: 1, 2
The scripture above is talking about the children of Israel that they heard the gospel of salvation but yet did not mix what they heard with their faith. This scripture is informing us that everyone has faith, but what distinguishes the faith of a believer is the word of God. Israel heard the gospel but decided not to believe in what they heard. What was the message Israel was supposed to believe in? They were supposed to believe in the rest God had already provided, which was the promised land. Our faith then should be in the rest God has provided in Christ. The believer’s faith is one that has found rest in Christ.
3 For those of us who believe, faith activates the promise and we experience the realm of confident rest! For he has said, “I was grieved with them and made a solemn oath, ‘They will never enter into the calming rest of my Spirit.’ ” God’s works have all been completed from the foundation of the world,
4 for it says in the Scriptures, And on the seventh day God rested from all his works.Hebrews 4: 3, 4
Hearing the word of God should bring one into a place of rest in Christ. The highest form of faith is rest in Christ. It is not acquiring things. A non-christian can have faith for things as well. But faith in Christ makes all the difference. There are numerous non-christians who do have testimonies of how they believed for something and it surely came to pass. One can boast in that can kind of faith. But our boast in Christ.
31 And this fulfills what is written: If anyone boasts, let him only boast in all that the Lord has done!
1 Corinthians 1: 31
Non-believers in Christ boast in their faith that came as the result of listening to motivation. That is not bad, but it is not the faith of God. The faith of God comes by hearing the word of God. The boasting of a believer should be in all that the Lord has done. Faith is not abstract. It is very focused on one person and what He has done for man. This person is JESUS. When our faith in Jesus is established, then all these other unimportant things will be added to our lives.
32 For that is what the unbelievers chase after. Doesn’t your heavenly Father already know the things your bodies require?
33 “So above all, constantly chase after the realm of God’s kingdom and the righteousness that proceeds from him. Then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly.
34 Refuse to worry about tomorrow, but deal with each challenge that comes your way, one day at a time. Tomorrow will take care of itself.”Matthew 6: 32 – 34
