Expansion Through Divine Interventions
By Apostle Felix
3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
Luke 5: 3 – 6
Peter and his partners had toiled the entire night without catching a single thing. It was a deeply frustrating and disappointing night for these men, who had families to support and bills to pay, yet their business was failing. Commercial fishermen normally fished at night, using lamps to attract the fish into their nets. Fishing during the day was highly unpromising because the bright sunlight scattered the fish. What they did not realize, however, was that the Light of the World was standing in their midst. This Light—far brighter than the sun—holds the power to command creation and cause fish to drift directly into a net. His name is Jesus, and He arrived right as the fishermen returned to shore after their failed expedition.
Jesus asked Simon if He could use the very boat they had just vacated. Stepping aboard, He transformed the fishing vessel into a pulpit so He could communicate the message of the Kingdom effectively to the crowds on the shore. After He finished teaching, Jesus instructed Peter and his friends to launch out into the deep and cast their nets again. From a human perspective, this instruction made absolutely no sense; if they had completely failed during the prime night hours, how could they expect to catch anything during the day?
Peter and his partners possessed the expertise, the experience, and the professional know-how, but what they truly needed was divine intervention. So often, we rely heavily on our own skills and past experiences to solve our problems. While professional knowledge is valuable, this narrative teaches us to look past our own human limitations and trust in the Lord’s supernatural power to intervene in our seemingly impossible circumstances.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
James 1: 23
Peter then made a statement that completely transformed his perspective on life. He responded to Jesus’ instruction with the powerful words, “At Your word, I will let down the net.” In that pivotal moment, Peter became a doer of the Word, not just a hearer. Acting in faith on God’s command unleashed a tidal wave of supernatural power, compelling the fish in the lake to rush directly into his net. This spectacular divine intervention was triggered precisely by Peter’s willing cooperation with Jesus’ instructions.
This breakthrough directly mirrors Mary’s encounter with the angel Gabriel when he delivered the good news of Christ’s birth. Mary was understandably startled and taken aback by the angelic message. In the natural realm, it was entirely impossible for her to conceive a child as a virgin. However, the angel promised a heavenly intervention, reassuring her that the Holy Spirit would overshadow her to accomplish the impossible.
Both accounts serve as powerful proof that God’s power can completely overturn our most hopeless and impossible circumstances. No matter how bleak a situation appears, God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ever ask or think. In a single moment, God miraculously expanded Peter’s fishing business. He and his partners reaped an unprecedented harvest—so massive that their boats began to sink under the weight.
