Excellency of the Knowledge of Christ Part 5

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 2 Corinthians 4: 7

The knowledge of Christ is the liberating force of God. God has no power beyond His Christ. Christ is the power of God that is at work in all those that believe.

But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of
God. 1 Corinthians 1: 24

Christ, the power of God is also called the Truth. He does not have the truth, but He is the Truth. The power is not in the reading of scriptures, but the power lies in allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal Christ in the scriptures. The scriptures testify of Christ. Scripture was read in the time of Jesus, but it was void of power. When Jesus read the same scripture, the people were perplexed by the words that came from His mouth.

And all bare him witness and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son? Luke 4: 22

The crowds were amazed at Jesus’ words because of authority that came with His words. The people did not understand that the source of authority is Christ, not the scriptures. Please, do not misunderstand me. What I mean is that, scripture without the revelation of Christ is a letter that kills.

Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. 2 Corinthians 3: 6

Scripture is good, but all by itself does not impart life. It is the Christ in the scriptures that impart life. Jesus is the bread of life from heaven. Bread is for sustenance. The children of Israel needed food for the survival of the nation in the wilderness. Manna was provided for them, which appeared every day in the morning. It had a short life span. It could only last for a day, and they had to collect fresh manna the following day.

This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents. Exodus 16: 16

The real bread came from heaven in the person of Christ. Moses’ bread could only sustain for a day and expire, but the bread of life, which is Christ gives eternal life. However, the bread of life has to be broken in order to partake of it’s life. The breaking of the bread is the revelation of Christ from the scriptures. The Holy Spirit breaks the word of God for us to see Christ.

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 16: 26
