Christ: Our Redeemer

Christ: Our Redeemer

By Apostle Felix

25  For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
26  And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

Job 19: 25, 26

Jesus Christ is our redeemer. The Hebrew word for redeemer is gaal, which in the oriental law of kingship context meant that the next of kin had the right to buy back his relative’s property and marry the widow, upon the death of one of family member. The classic example of a redeemer is the life story of Ruth. Ruth, the Moabite stayed loyal to her mother in law and followed her back to Israel when they lost their husbands. Naomi, who was Ruth’s mother in law returned home and lived in poverty with her daughter in law, Ruth. They lived on very little that Ruth got from Boaz’ field. Boaz was a man of a noble character and well respected in the community. He allowed Ruth to harvest from his fields, enough to feed herself and her mother in law. It was such a relieve for Ruth and Naomi. But they both needed rest.

4  So I thought to myself I ought to tell you that you must make a public purchase of this before the town residents and the elders of my people. So if you intend to act as the related redeemer, then do so. But if not, let me know, because except for you—and I after you—there is no one to fulfill the duties of a related redeemer.” The man responded, “I will act as related redeemer.”
5  Boaz continued, “On the very day you buy the field from Naomi, you’re also “buying” Ruth the Moabite woman, the wife of her dead husband, so the family name may be continued as an inheritance.”
6  At this, the nearer related redeemer replied, “Then I am unable to act as related redeemer, because that would complicate my own inheritance. You act instead as the related redeemer, because I cannot do so.”

Ruth 4: 4 – 6

Naomi worked in the field to feed herself and the mother in law everyday. A day came when she realized that Boaz was the kinsman redeemer of the family. She was advised by her mother in law to change her clothes, put perfume and find Boaz’ resting place. The change of clothes is of course the change of mindset concerning oneself. She was advised to find his resting place which symbolizes the resting place in Christ. She took the advise and her life changed for her good. Boaz turned out to be the kinsman redeemer, who bought Naomi’s property and married Ruth. In essence, all that belonged to Boaz became Ruth’s too.

Jesus is your kinsman redeemer. The man, who was a direct kinsman redeemer rejected the offer, just like Adam forfeited the privilege of reigning over all creation. The first Adam, who had the first legal rights failed at his responsibilities, so God had to become man, as the last Adam for the purpose of redeeming man.

45  For it is written: The first man, Adam, became a living soul. The last Adam became the life-giving Spirit.
46  However, the spiritual didn’t come first. The natural precedes the spiritual.
47  The first man was from the dust of the earth; the second Man is the Lord Jehovah, from the realm of heaven.

1 Corinthians 15: 45 – 47

Christ got back all that was lost in Adam and He put His name on it. And then He went ahead and married His bride, the church and gave His name to the church. He has given all authority and power to the church, Luke 10: 19. The church has been given everything that pertains to life and godliness, 2 Peter 1: 3. Just like Ruth, she was longer allowed to be treated like one of the servants, she became the owner of the business empire. Likewise, you are longer a servant, but a son and have been given access to all what Jesus died for.
