Benefits of A Godly Character

Benefits of A Godly Character

By Apostle Felix

16  Live happily together in a spirit of harmony, and be as mindful of another’s worth as you are your own. Don’t live with a lofty mind-set, thinking you are too important to serve others, but be willing to do menial tasks and identify with those who are humble minded. Don’t be smug or even think for a moment that you know it all.
17  Never hold a grudge or try to get even, but plan your life around the noblest way to benefit others.
18  Do your best to live as everybody’s friend.

Romans 12: 16 – 18

A godly character has numerous benefits. It preserves families, marriages, careers and one’s physical life. Character is just as important as charisma. If not more important. We are living in a generation that has more respect for charisma than character. This is not to say that charisma is antagonistic to character. It is the preference of charisma over character that has caused so many problems in the church. We have situations where a supposedly man of God has a very questionable character but yet crowds follow him because of charisma and the ability to perform miracles. Godly character has become a thing of the past and as an option. It is such a concern, especially for the body of Christ. Any church without the character of Christ is not representing Christ. It is not miracles and display of power that reflect the character of God, because miracles are not a monopoly of the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is not defined by the miracles. We have heard people say that when miracles are removed from the Bible then it will cease to be the word of God. That is not true. This is because miracles can be found in the witch-doctors’ shrine. The church is not defined by miracles, but by its character of Christ.

15  “Constantly be on your guard against phony prophets. They come disguised as lambs, appearing to be genuine, but on the inside they are like wild, ravenous wolves!
16  You can spot them by their actions, for the fruits of their character will be obvious. You won’t find sweet grapes hanging on a thorn bush, and you’ll never pick good fruit from a tumbleweed.
17  So if the tree is good, it will produce good fruit; but if the tree is bad, it will bear only rotten fruit and it deserves to be cut down and burned.

Matthew 7: 15 – 17

Trees in God’s garden are only identified by the fruits they bear. They are not identified by their leaves necessarily. Leaves can be very deceiving. Different trees can have the similar looking leaves. So, if you only identify a tree by its leaves then you ran a risk eating from a poisonous tree. Normally, trees are identified by the fruits.

Benefits of Godly Character:

1. It protects: Godly character protects one’s gift. We have had gifted people, who destroyed their careers because of bad character. Charisma can bring you before great people, but its character that can keep you there.

2. It judges right: Godly character helps one to judge things soberly. Ungodly character dulls the judgement ability of an individual. If you examine the lives of people that follow false prophets, you will notice that their lives are marked with ungodliness. Most of them are false brethren following false prophets.

3. It produces after its kind: Procreation is a law of nature that ensures continuity. Godly character will reproduce after its kind. It is godly citizens that produce a godly nation. Transforming a nation starts with transforming citizens, one at a time. Jesus has commanded us to go and make disciples of all nations (people groups). Disciple making is a process of turning ungodly character into a godly character.
