10  “The one who manages the little he has been given with faithfulness and integrity will be promoted and trusted with greater responsibilities. But those who cheat with the little they have been given will not be considered trustworthy to receive more.
11  If you have not handled the riches of this world with integrity, why should you be trusted with the eternal treasures of the spiritual world?
12  And if you’ve not been proven faithful with what belongs to another, why should you be given wealth of your own?
13  It is impossible for a person to serve two masters at the same time. You will be forced to love one and reject the other. One master will be despised and the other will have your loyal devotion. It is no different with God and the wealth of this world. You must enthusiastically love one and definitively reject the other.” 

Luke 16: 10 – 13

From the beginning, God intended for humanity to exercise authority over nature and the environment; He never intended for us to be subservient to it. The worship of nature is one of the worst perversions since the Fall of man, occurring when people pay homage to the very creation they were meant to rule. The Fall itself is a classic example of this perversion, as Adam and Eve turned to creation for their identity and validation. This mistake has persisted throughout human history, serving as a reminder that you cannot exercise authority over the object of your worship.

26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Genesis 1: 26

True authority begins with your immediate environment; if you cannot master your surroundings, you cannot experience true fruitfulness and increase. Adam’s failure to dominate creation directly hindered his ability to multiply. From that moment on, humanity faced severe resistance from the natural world as the earth entered a state of rebellion against mankind. To successfully subdue it once again, we must observe the following principles:

1. Know Your Identity Is In God

Identity is the bridge to spiritual authority. Adam forfeited his original dominion the moment he misplaced his identity within creation rather than the Creator. Because knowing who you are is vital to exercising authority, the spiritual realm will always test your identity. This is why the evil spirit challenged the seven sons of Sceva, demanding to know who they were. Lacking a genuine relationship with God, these young men had no true identity; consequently, they could wield no authority, allowing the demonic realm to overpower them instead.

14  And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
15  And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

Acts 19: 14, 15

2. Exercise Self-Control

Self-control is simply the ability to govern oneself; if you cannot control your own actions, you cannot control anything else. A person without self-control is someone who has lost control over their entire life. We have all witnessed highly talented and brilliant individuals across various fields whose inability to master themselves brought their careers to ruin. These were young men and women with tremendous potential to succeed and make a difference, yet a lack of self-control rewritten their history. Your story will be different. Commit to developing self-control today, master your appetites, and protect your future.

17  He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

3. Faithfulness In Little

Faithfulness is a fundamental key to authority; you cannot exercise true dominion without it. Jesus underscored this principle by declaring that whoever is faithful in little is also faithful in much—a statement made specifically in the context of money. It is a mistake to believe you can be unfaithful with financial resources and still rule effectively in other areas of life. Financial unfaithfulness inevitably corrupts every other domain. Ultimately, you must determine who holds the reins: you or your money. Sadly, countless people are controlled by their wealth, and it is impossible to freely give away something that dominates you. When money dictates your choices, you lose the capacity for generosity; you might spend lavishly on personal desires, but giving to the work of God becomes a struggle. The most effective way to break the stronghold of Mammon over your life is to commit to the discipline of giving.
