After Prayer And Fasting
By Apostle Felix
17 Make your life a prayer.
18 And in the midst of everything be always giving thanks, for this is God’s perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus.
19 Never restrain or put out the fire of the Holy Spirit.1 Thessalonians 5: 17 – 19
Pray is essential to one spiritual life. Prayer is a communication between God and man, in our christian context. Moslems, Hindus and Buddhists pray as well. However, doctrine and beliefs determines which deity one is praying to. Our foundation for prayer as christians is Jesus Christ. He is our foundation of christian faith. Therefore, prayer should be in the confines of the doctrine of Christ. We have tp pray in the manner Jesus prayed.
The month of January is a month in most cases dedicated to prayer and fasting. Across Africa, churches are praying and fasting in there respective settings. It is a solemn month in which christians abstain from food and other pleasures of life in order to seek God’s will regarding the year. It is a very good practice that should be observed each year. But the question is, what do we do after the prayer and fasting? For someone, it is a relieve that the fasting is over and have to revert back to one’s ways of life. Of course, we have to go back to our normal life of work, socializing, eating etc, but our lives should have a mark of transformation after prayer and fasting.
Here are some hints to maintaining the spiritual fervency after the prayer and fasting:
- Allocate specific time for prayer each day. During fasting, you found yourself praying at a particular time. If need be maintain that time to pray.
- Dedicate a day to praying and fasting in a week. Do not wait for next year to fast again. Develop a habit of fasting. That way, you will maintain the spiritual fervency.
- Read and study the word consistently. When we are praying and fasting, the hunger levels for the word of God are high. We can only maintain that hunger when we are consistent. Read and study the word daily.
- Develop the habit of constantly be in fellowship with other brethren. Breaking the fast, does not mean breaking yourself from fellowship for a season. Intensify your commitment to fellowship.
- Reaching out is the highest form of obedience to God’s command. After prayer and fasting, commit to reaching out to the brethren who are not so committed to God, and also to reaching out to those who are not born again.
- Commit to serve in your local church. Do not just stay put after prayer and fasting Join a ministry where you will be able to serve diligently. And if you are serving already, commit to serve more devotedly.
