A Fruitful Life Through Relationships

17  Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. 

Proverbs 27: 17

Relationships are as important as your purpose in life. Do not underestimate the power of relationships. They can either fracture your purpose or enhance it. Every relationship you allow in your life, you give access to your life and dreams of your life. Some relationships can be a liability and some an asset. The Bible does warn and caution us about relationships. Relationships you keep, are the reflection of the person you are. The character, values, principles and aspirations reflect in the company you keep. If your company is of thieves, then most likely you are a thief. You cannot allow your life to be sharpened by thieves and turn out an honorable police person.

14  “You show that you are my intimate friends when you obey all that I command you.
15  I have never called you ‘servants,’ because a master doesn’t confide in his servants, and servants don’t always understand what the master is doing. But I call you my most intimate friends, for I reveal to you everything that I’ve heard from my Father. 

John 15: 14, 15

Jesus considered His disciples as friends because He had unveiled Himself to them. Friendship is more than just chatting occasionally, but it is an engagement that demands transparency and vulnerability. He had opened up Himself to them and revealed who He was. Their relationship was intimate. It took a friend to betray a friend. Judas managed to betray Jesus because he had relationship with Him. It was not going to be easy for an outsider to come and betray, it had to take someone who had walked, ate and worked with Jesus.

48  Jesus looked at him with sorrow and said, “A kiss, Judas? Are you really going to betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”

Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss. Not every gesture is innocent. Not every smile is innocent. In the Jewish culture of the time, a kiss was a friendly gesture. It was a gesture to communicate intimacy between friends. No other person who was not in inner circle could have done that. Relationship have the potential to fracture your life or enhance it.

In Jesus’ case, He needed  a Judas to facilitate His death. This was because He came die so that we may have life. And unfortunately, it had to be Judas to play that role because of his covetousness. Jesus came as the Seed to fall to the ground and die, so that many sons can born into the kingdom of God. Jesus had one Judas and eleven faithful ones. Jesus knew about him and allowed him to be part of the team because He came to die. What role are relations playing in your life? You do not need a Judas in order to be fruitful in life. However, Judas may be there but endeavor to secure your life with friends that are there to help you become a better person. You cannot change Judas, but you can change your circle. This is not just about betrayal, but this is to do with influences relationships exert one’s life. If your relationships are negative influences, why cannot you change ship and get into a positive one. It is a matter of choice.

Young man and young lady, choose friends wisely. They have a lot to do with how your life ends up to be. Choose your life partner wisely. Do not go for bling bling or beauty. Those things fade with time. Go for values, principles, and one’s purpose in life. Do not be in a hurry to engage. Take your life to investigate. Your life is too precious to rush it into something that may squeeze life out of you. Be wise. Consult. Do not just make decisions without seeking advise from people that are mature.
