Faith And Power

Faith And Power

By Apostle Felix

Mat 17:15  and said, “Lord, please show your tender mercy toward my son. He has a demon who afflicts him. He has epilepsy, and he suffers horribly from seizures. He often falls into the cooking fire or into the river.
Mat 17:16  I brought him to your followers, but they weren’t able to heal him.”

Matthew 17: 15, 16

The passage above describes a desperate father who, deeply concerned for his son’s health, brought the boy to Jesus’ disciples for help. The young boy was afflicted by a demon that caused severe seizures, frequently driving him to throw himself into fire and water. While Jesus was on the mountain with Peter, James, and John, the remaining nine disciples frantically tried to cast out the demon, but all their efforts were to no avail. As the father and the gathering crowd waited anxiously for Jesus to descend, His return brought a moment of desperate pleading. The father fell at Jesus’ feet, begging Him to heal his son and openly reporting the disciples’ failure. Jesus’ response is exactly what we are going to examine today: He confronted His disciples by asking them about the condition of their faith.
“Where is your faith?” was Jesus’ penetrating, rhetorical question. He was not looking for an explanation or an excuse; rather, He was pointing out that the disciples could not cast out the demon because their faith was misplaced. They had likely placed their confidence in external factors—perhaps in the works of the law or in their own human abilities—rather than in Jesus Himself. Our faith must never be anchored in anything else but Christ.

2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12: 2

Jesus is the author and the finisher of our faith. The moment we look away from Him, we lose the exact faith required to demonstrate the power of God. Because spiritual power is transmitted through faith, a lack of belief completely short-circuits the power of God. Furthermore, the specific faith that releases this power must be firmly anchored in the finished work of Jesus Christ. No one can successfully cast out demons without absolute faith in Him and His completed sacrifice on the cross. If a supernatural display occurs without a foundation of faith in Jesus, it is a manifestation of satanic power. The display of spiritual power is not a monopoly held exclusively by the Kingdom of God; demons can manifest power as well. Therefore, whenever supernatural power is displayed in the church, we must first examine the object of that faith

22  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Romans 3: 22

Righteousness, which serves as the believer’s breastplate, is attained strictly through faith in Jesus Christ. This righteousness represents our right standing with God in Christ, serving as the ultimate position of authority and power. Therefore, placing our faith in Christ—who is our righteousness—grants us absolute authority and power over the kingdom of satan.
