How Far Can You See?
By Apostle Felix
14 And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:
15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.Genesis 13: 14 – 16
God instructed Abraham to leave his father’s house and journey to an appointed land, but Abraham chose to bring along his nephew Lot, who eventually became a source of tension. Because God’s command was to leave his extended relatives behind and establish a new family under divine guidance, Lot was never part of the original plan. The fulfilment of God’s promise depended entirely on strict obedience. Unlike Abraham, Lot was driven by external stimuli, living carnally and relying only on what his physical eyes could see. As Lot grew wealthy and influential, his opinions began to carry significant weight, effectively creating a household with “two kings in one kingdom.” This environment made it impossible for Abraham to fulfil God’s instructions, as Lot would likely have resisted any spiritual guidance that defied human logic. Consequently, God waited until Lot departed before providing Abraham with further instructions. With this in mind, whom are you allowing to influence your circle?
7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.Genesis 13: 7, 8
When strife arose between the herdsmen of Abraham and Lot because the land could not support both of their large families, Abraham wisely suggested they separate. Given the choice of where to go, Lot immediately eyed the fertile, well-watered plains near Sodom and Gomorrah. Driven by ambition and enticing physical appearances, he chose the region without pausing to pray or consult the Lord. What his physical eyes failed to see, however, was the extreme moral corruption thriving in that land. Our eyes can easily mislead us, as they lack the ability to look past immediate, material allure. Because Lot relied entirely on what he could see on the surface, he was completely blind to the perversion awaiting him—a short-sighted decision that ultimately cost him everything he had worked for.
18 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.
Genesis 13: 18
In faithful obedience to God’s instructions, Abraham relocated his tents to Hebron and built an altar to honor the Lord. This altar symbolized a place of death, prefiguring the profound New Testament reality: “I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” It represents the spiritual necessity of dying to self and fully submitting to the Holy Spirit. While believers today no longer need to erect physical stone altars, we are called to build a lifestyle of submission to God’s guidance. As Scripture affirms, those who are led by the Spirit of God are truly the sons of God..
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.Romans 8: 10 – 14
