Expansion Through Favour
By Apostle Felix
2 And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.Genesis 39: 2 – 4
Joseph’s life is a journey from riches to rags, and ultimately, from rags to extreme riches. Deeply loved by his father, Jacob, Joseph became the target of his brothers’ intense animosity. This jealousy intensified when Jacob gifted him a magnificent coat of many colours, a token of favouritism that made Joseph stand out starkly among his siblings. Naturally, the brothers resented how their father elevated Joseph above them.
An opportunity for revenge arose when the brothers found themselves alone with Joseph. Driven by hatred for his prophetic dreams and his privileged status, they initially plotted his harm but ultimately chose to sell him to Ishmaelite merchants. These merchants, in turn, sold Joseph into Egypt to a high-ranking official named Potiphar.
Despite his sudden downfall, Joseph found favour in the sight of Potiphar because God was with him. His brothers could strip him of his colourful coat, but they could never strip him of God’s favour. People may malign your character and blacken your name, but no one can revoke the divine favour on your life. They can take away your “coat”—your external reputation, status, or position—but inner favour will always cause you to triumph in the end.
5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.
Genesis 39: 5
Joseph’s brothers believed they had buried his dreams by selling him into slavery, but they unknowingly pushed him toward his destiny. Destiny represents your unique territory for growth. You can only truly expand in the specific domain you are destined to occupy. For Joseph, Egypt was that territory, and God had uniquely anointed him to find favour there.
Favour always manifests with supernatural ease when you are operating in the land of your calling. This was evident when Joseph was appointed overseer of Potiphar’s entire household and all his possessions. Consequently, Potiphar’s home and businesses flourished under Joseph’s management. The favour on his life was tangible, profoundly impacting the assets of another man.
When the favor of God is upon you, everything entrusted to your care experiences tremendous growth. In this season of expansion, may that same favour rest upon you, bringing divine growth and prosperity to your family, organisation, institution, company, and business.
6 And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.
Genesis 39: 6
Joseph’s influence expanded rapidly because the favour of God rested upon his life. It is impossible to walk closely with God and lack His favour; Joseph thrived simply because God was actively with him. Although his journey was marked by severe hardships, divine favour consistently cushioned his pain by bringing supernatural promotions in the midst of adversity.
When Joseph was thrown into prison, it was not because he was a criminal, but because he fiercely refused to compromise his integrity or sin against his God. In your own season of favour, you will undoubtedly face opportunities to compromise your faith. Crucially, these temptations will often masquerade as open doors facilitated by favour. Do not be deceived: they are not blessings, but strategic traps designed to frustrate and sabotage the true favour of God upon your life.
20 And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.
21 But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.Genesis 39: 20, 21
Even while confined in prison, the favour of God remained heavily upon Joseph’s life. Despite his circumstances, he was promoted, and his influence steadily grew. Joseph’s impact did not suddenly begin when he became second-in-command to Pharaoh; rather, he was equipped to handle that immense position of power because he had already cultivated deep, internal spiritual growth.
His expansion occurred within God first, long before it ever manifested physically in the palace. In this season, may you also grow deeply in favour with both God and man, building the internal capacity required for your external elevation.
