The Greatest Gift Ever!

10  Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11  The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

Christmas is a season of giving and receiving gifts. It is such an awesome feeling to receive a gift from the loved ones. Growing up as a boy, Christmas was a much looked forward to season. We had our new pair of clothes and shoes on Christmas. The excitement and expectation was very high during this season. We had new clothes, ate rice and chicken and drank soft drinks as much as we wanted. That only happened on Christmas.

I don’t know how excited you are about Christmas in 2025. At my age, and now that I am a christian, my perspective of Christmas has changed. I longer see it as a season of only giving and receiving gifts from people. It is a time of reflection and thanksgiving to God for the best gift in the Person of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Oftentimes, we give gifts to people that deserve our gifts. We give to our family members and friends. Seldomly, do we give to people we do not know. But we give to people, especially those who have the capacity to reciprocate. However, God gave His Son while we were still sinners.

Rom 5:7  Now, who of us would dare to die for the sake of a wicked person? We can all understand if someone was willing to die for a truly noble person.
Rom 5:8  But Christ proved God’s passionate love for us by dying in our place while we were still lost and ungodly! 

Romans 5: 7, 8

God gave because of His love for man. He was not motivated by any external stimuli for Him to give His Son. His love for us was a motivation enough. He did not receive any gift from man for Him to reciprocate. He just gave. This is the greatest gift ever. It is a gift without conditions or ill intentions, but absolutely for the love of man. It is the free gift of salvation through His Son, Jesus. This gift is so special in the sense that it is one size fits all. It is the gift given to all mankind regardless of race, social status, gender, geographical location, tribe, or one’s spiritual condition.

28  And we no longer see each other in our former state—Jew or non-Jew, rich or poor, male or female—because we’re all one through our union with Jesus Christ with no distinction between us.

Galatians 3: 28

The gift of God is universal and does not segregate. It is not colour or tribe sensitive. This is the gospel of our Lord Jesus which is to be preached to all men. Any gospel that fit only in a certain group is not the gospel. We cannot localize the gospel. The gift of God cannot be localized, only for a specific group of people. This gift is for you and me, and everyone around you. It is for the murderers like Saul, who later became apostle Paul. This gift is for your neighbour who is a drunkard. This gift is for that witch. Jesus did not come to wipe out witches but to save them. For He Himself said that He did not come to condemn but to save that which was lost. Is a witch lost? Oh yes, that witch was died for. Do not rejoice, therefore, when a witch dies because God does not rejoice in the death of the wicked.

23  Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?

Jesus is the greatest gift ever! Amazing gift for the salvation of man, all men.
